The Health, Care and Justice Minister, has today released a personal statement regarding his decision to not stand for re-election in the upcoming General Election of October 17, 2019.
On the advice of the Chief Minister, His Excellency the Governor Lieutenant General Edward Davis CB CBE KStJ, has issued the Proclamation at midday on 16th September 2019 under section 38(1) of the Constitution of Gibraltar to dissolve Parliament.
Government has decided that The Mount will be refurbished and retained as an open green area for the general public to enjoy.
The Government has announced the building of a further two new schools. One will be at Town Range and will replace St Mary’s First School, currently located also on Town Range.
Further to the announcement that hot school meals will commence in the coming weeks, initially at Bayside and Westside, Government have today announced that these will be provided free of charge for a trial period in each school as they are introduced.

Following a competitive process, Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Supernatural, trading as Smart Kitchen, for the provision of hot school lunches.
The Government says it supports the campaign to save Queensway Quay marina and agrees with the need to protect the area from over-development.

As from Monday 16th September 2019, all schools (with the exception of St Martin’s) will be open to pupils as from 08:30. This gives parents a 30 minute drop-off window before lessons start at 09:00.
Beach goers wishing to set up in preparation for National Day will be allowed to do so on the preceding evening, that is, Monday 9th September 2019 but not earlier.
As a result of further discussions between the Gibraltar Taxi Association and Gibraltar Calling Event Organisers a bespoke taxi service has been agreed to support Gibraltar Calling, Andrea Bocelli and Monkey Rocks musical events.
A meeting was held yesterday afternoon at No 6 Convent Place, chaired by the Minister for Education, John Cortes, and attended by the Government’s Chief Technical Officer, the Director of Education and Senior Education Advisor, the senior teaching teams of Bayside and Westside Schools and the NASUWT Union representatives of both schools.
