G.B.B.A. WINS GOLD at the 60th World Bird Show

The Gibraltar Bird Breeders Association participants have returned from Aguadulce- Almeria – Spain after participating in the 60th World Bird show organized by the Worlds Ornithological Confederation  (COM).

The GBBA participation consisted of 5 members and a total of 21 birds of various species. The only medal won was by. Louis Spiteri who won a Gold with a beautiful Carpodacus Erythrinus more commonly known as a Rose Finch.

In all the 45 years of the GBBA existence only three members have won medals in World Show events, however Louis Spiteri the present President of the GBBA and its senior member is the only Gibraltarian who has won medals in two world show. His first in 2001 – Portugal where he won silver medal with a Trumpeter Finch and this year a Gold in Almeria – Spain with A Rose finch. 

The GBBA congratulates Louis Spiteri for his achievement and for holding the accolade of repeating medals wins at World Shows a fitting and meritorious reward for so many years of dedication to this difficult hobby.

The total number of birds entered was 26,367 with 2,971 expositors from 17 countries. GB entering a total of 142 birds 21 of which came from Gibraltar.

The GBBA looks forward to taking many more birds to participate in the next World Show to be held in Hasselet - Belgium in January 2013.
