The Chief Minister concluded the meeting by inviting Minister Lidington to visit Gibraltar at an early date
The Chief Minister, the Hon Fabian Picardo MP, today met with the Minister of State for Europe, the Rt Hon David Lidington MP, at the Foreign Office, in London.
This is the first time the two Ministers have met since the General Election with an opportunity to review all current ongoing issues in relation to all matters between London and Gibraltar.
The Chief Minister concluded the meeting by inviting Minister Lidington to visit Gibraltar at an early date. The Chief Chief Minister meets with the Minister for EuropeMinister was accompanied to the meeting by the Chief Secretary and other officials.
Commenting afterwards, the Chief Minister said, “I have found our first meeting very useful and I have been able to explain my Government’s policy on all ongoing issues between Gibraltar and London. I was pleased to hear the Minister re-state once again that the UK will not enter into a process of Sovereignty negotiations without our consent, which effectively rules out the possibility of any Talks under the Brussels Process or any other mechanism designed for a similar purpose. I left the meeting feeling confident that in Minister Lidington we have a good friend and supporter of Gibraltar and of our rights as a people.
